Get With It!

Image
***We had our church's Secret Sister Reveal Party here yesterday, I had a houseful and it was such fun! I'm getting over a cold too, so when it was over and everything was cleaned up I was pooped! Didn't get any work done at all yesterday, so I'm going to be holed up in my office for the rest of the day today. It was worth it! Love all those ladies. Fellowship with other believers is so important to the Christian walk, I think. *** Successful people always chase the impossible. - Great read! Successful people -- and entrepreneurs especially -- are driven by their goals. It’s a fine line, though, between goals that inspire and goals that trap. The best stories about entrepreneurs are full of fresh starts and unexpected detours. If you find yourself disliking what you’re doing, or feeling frustrated even when things are going well, think about making a new plan. Changing your path isn’t bad or wrong or failing -- it’s simply a new choice, and often the right o

Roadblocks

***Doggone it, I've been wanting to blog all week and just haven't been able to carve out the time. I'm going to take a few minutes now and hope I don't get interrupted with a stat or something. ***James preached another "right between the eyes" sermon Sunday. I wanted to blog about it while it was fresh in my mind, but see above. <g> I certainly remember the gist, though, because I've been trying to practice it. We're in II Timothy right now, but he referred back to Acts and spoke for a few minutes about how we aren't to be contentious, but respond in love to those who don't share our faith. Man, that is my biggest weakness, I think. When I see somebody mock or attack my faith, my first instinct is not love and compassion, but anger and resentment. Exactly what I should not be feeling, and I definitely should not respond in that way. I'm getting better at just letting it go and not responding with a sarcastic comment.  I do want pe

Jumping on the Low Carb Bandwagon

Image
***Actually, we've been here before, both Mark & I. The bandwagon is quite familiar with us. Low carb eating works great, as long as you stick with it. You can't think of it as a temporary fix, though. If you go off of it, the weight comes right back. Take it from one who knows. :-) Today I'm going to try "Cloud Bread." Apparently that's a "thing," but I only heard about it yesterday. I hope it's as good as it looks. ***Well, the "Schumer Shutdown" happened yesterday. At least the Republicans so far aren't letting them hang it around their necks. The Dems own this one because they will not deal regarding illegal immigrants...they need their votes. And don't tell me illegal immigrants don't vote, of course they do. They aren't supposed to, but they do, and if they're given amnesty they'll be able to do it legally. We all know how they'll vote, too, that's why the Democrats are desperate to make

"A Time for Leadership"

*** This speech was given by Lady Margaret Thatcher at the Hoover Institute in 2000. She is one of my heroes. Some excerpts: Since the end of the Cold War, politics, journalism and academe have been heavily preoccupied with debating what happened and why. That is only natural. But we have also seen a rather unsubtle attempt at revisionism - the claim that contrary to what appeared the case at the time, the Cold War wasn't really won, or if it was, it wasn't won by the Cold Warriors but in spite of them. Perhaps I should say "in spite of us". But the revisionists are wrong, and the Right was right. We know that the Soviet Union in its heyday was an expansionist, hostile and lethal power. We also know, from what the last Foreign Minister of the Soviet Union himself has said on the matter, that the Reagan defence build-up in general, and the SDI programme in particular, did have a decisive role in forcing the Soviets to alter course. Doubtless, it

Ridiculous!

***This is the craziest thing I've seen lately... USA Today wants the Raiders fined for hiring a white head coach. Even though they went through the NFL's mandatory, insulting charade of pretending to consider minority candidates when everyone knew they had already made their choice. This is one of those things where I have to say in all honesty, because I'm not black , I think I know how this business would make me feel, but I can't say for sure so if you're black I want to hear from you on it. I think , it this sort of thing was applied to me, I'd find it insulting and condescending even though they claim it's to benefit me. That's what I think. The NFL's so-called Rooney Rule says that any time an NFL team has an opening for the position of head coach, they must interview at least one minority candidate for the position. And they're calling the Raiders racist? That word has absolutely no meaning any more. It is used by the

Resilience

***Just happened to see this at the Entrepreneur web site. Very timely, since Chick-fil-A told us no yesterday. We had made it past the first round of questions and sent in our comprehensive application, but apparently there are just too may applicants in this area. Oh well, I hope somebody opens one around here! Anyway, this article is about resilience and what to do when we hear the word "no." Good stuff. What I'd really like to do is the consignment store I keep talking about, I just can't find a suitable storefront. I'll keep looking, though! ***This is amazing. Dick Durbin is pretending to be SO outraged at Donald Trump's language regarding immigrants (which is only documented according to HIM, nobody else, so that makes me question it immediately). Where was he when George W. Bush was being maligned at every turn? Salty language directed toward a conservative is okay, apparently. *** Jeff Bezos donates $33 million to send 1000 Dreamers to college.

DUD!

***Oh, this is just too good. A group of Democrats wanted to prove that it was easy to get guns illegally online, and they failed miserably . Over the course of the two-and-a-half year investigation, agents tried to buy firearms illegally on the “Surface Web” and the “Dark Web,” generally by sharing their status as “prohibited individuals” or trying to buy across state lines. But the GAO revealed that their 72 attempts outside of the dark web were all “unsuccessful.” “Private sellers on Surface Web gun forums and in classified ads were unwilling to sell a firearm to our agents that self-identified as being prohibited from possessing a firearm,” the GAO reported, noting that in their “72 attempts ... 56 sellers refused to complete a transaction once we revealed that either the shipping address was across state lines or that we were prohibited by law from owning firearms.” In the other cases, the investigators' website was frozen or they encountered suspected scammers

Dare We Hope?

***Along with many conservatives, I have lamented over the years the Clintons' seemingly impenetrable force field when it comes to their unlawful behavior and awful acquaintances. The more we find out about her tenure as Secretary of State, and indeed well before that with the Rose Law Firm, Bill's sexual shenanigans, and on and on ad nauseum, the more obvious it is that they should be behind bars, not making millions in book sales and speaking fees. It appears that at least there will finally be an investigation.  Not sure how much will come of it given their Teflon skins, but we can hope. *** The science is in: Exercise won't help you lose much weight. We’ve been conditioned to think of exercise as a key ingredient — perhaps the most important ingredient — of any weight loss effort. You know the drill: Join the gym on January 1 if you want to reach your New Year’s weight loss goal. But in truth, the evidence has been accumulating for years that exercise, whi

Happy Frigid New Year!

***Wow, hasn't been this cold here in Indiana in several years. It was -14 yesterday, right now it's a balmy 2 degrees. I think it's supposed to get back to normal this weekend. Right now the teens is sounding pretty good! ***I read the neatest thing in my devotional this morning by Oswald Chambers : The Bible is a relation of facts, the truth of which must be tested. Life may go on all right for a while, when suddenly a bereavement comes, or some crisis; unrequited love or a new love, a disaster, a business collapse, or a shocking sin, and we turn up our Bibles again and God’s word comes straight home, and we say, “Why, I never saw that there before.” Shade of His Hand, 1223 L It is difficult to relate to an unbeliever the deep-seated comfort and joy that comes with one's salvation. Even when things are awful, and that happens at one time or another to everyone, I have a "peace that passes all understanding." (Phil. 4:7).  That is not a cli
