Dare We Hope?

***Along with many conservatives, I have lamented over the years the Clintons' seemingly impenetrable force field when it comes to their unlawful behavior and awful acquaintances. The more we find out about her tenure as Secretary of State, and indeed well before that with the Rose Law Firm, Bill's sexual shenanigans, and on and on ad nauseum, the more obvious it is that they should be behind bars, not making millions in book sales and speaking fees. It appears that at least there will finally be an investigation.  Not sure how much will come of it given their Teflon skins, but we can hope.

***The science is in: Exercise won't help you lose much weight.

We’ve been conditioned to think of exercise as a key ingredient — perhaps the most important ingredient — of any weight loss effort.
You know the drill: Join the gym on January 1 if you want to reach your New Year’s weight loss goal.

But in truth, the evidence has been accumulating for years that exercise, while great for health, isn’t actually all that important for weight loss.

Interesting piece.

***The Wolff book proves what we already knew, journalism in America is awful.

But Bannon's fall, and the scandal-mongering book that helped it along — Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House — do underscore one thing of real importance: our mainstream journalists are genuinely awful. They will sell any narrative they can to keep from selling the one that seems increasingly likely to be true: Trump is smarter than they are and doing a better job than the last two presidents combined.

***Inspiring story:

There are endless examples of courage buried in the ruins of the Holocaust, but Irena Sendler's story stands out. When the Nazis invaded her native Poland and rounded up all the Jews into a walled-in ghetto, Sendler knew what was going to happen. She was a social worker and got credentials as a nurse so she could sneak food and medicine into the ghetto. What she snuck out was even more phenomenal: It’s estimated that Sendler and her group helped get approximately 2500 children out of the ghetto—sedated and placed in the bottom of toolboxes or lying in burlap sacks at the bottom of her truck—and sent them through a network of likeminded comrades to Christian orphanages, where they were given new identities. She kept their real names in a jar buried in her backyard.
Sendler was eventually caught by the Nazis, who imprisoned and tortured her, breaking both of her legs. When the war ended she devoted herself to reuniting children with their families, though it proved nearly impossible to do so.

A fruit is fated to be sliced.
It sings before the blade,
In joyful hope that now at last
It's future has been made.
The slice is swift.
The foodie's fast!
The rind is cut and saved.
The pulp is squooshed and
Squished and smashed! -
I've heard that it's been said
No braver lemon gave it's life.
The memory never fades
For citrus that resigns itself
To become lemonade.
