Bullying/Free Speech

Image
***I have to get this off my chest. I have avoided the myriad threads in Facebook about the tragedy that took place in Richmond last week as I didn't want to deal with the inevitable silliness that would follow my posting my opinion. The boy's mother is the one who called in the tip, and the police where there when he arrived. She no doubt saved several lives, the boy in question had two firearms and explosives in his possession. He obviously was planning to do a lot of harm. Since then, however, there has been an overabundance of weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. Of course it's tragic and awful, you would have to be nuts to think otherwise. BUT, if the Dennis middle schoolers did not feel like victims before, they certainly do now. Counselors, days out of school, free T-shirts, free day at the local recreational complex, endless worrying about their feelings...not terrible things, but come on. So many are wailing about bullying and how it has to stop and oh, what a

Soap Bubbles

***Wanted to blog about this while it's still fresh in my head. I always have the best intentions but...other stuff always seems to get in the way. Or, I should say, I allow other stuff to get in the way. James had a great message this morning before communion. He talked about how he was listening to the radio and heard a Christian Christmas song about the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, how he is our hope and the source of our joy - in other words, a song about the true meaning of Christmas. He said right after that the Chipmunks Christmas song came on. He spoke about the contrast between the sacred and the secular, the truth and the world, the source of joy and the source of...well, pretty much nothing. What really stuck with me is his analogy of how we chase after worldly things and they're like soap bubbles - we keep grabbing at them, thinking they are going to bring us happiness and peace, and they pop, and just aren't there. The only lasting thing, the only

Perspective

***I really wish I could just not care about politics sometimes. I have anxiety, lose sleep, and get really angry over it sometimes, like now, when the Democrats are trying to steal a couple of close elections. Ever notice that when they happen to find a few hundred thousand votes in a close contest, they always, ALWAYS, benefit the Democrat? Plus, they never find a bunch of votes in a contest that was not close. Amazing, right? The Left is doing its level best to chip away at the foundations of this country. Our voting rights and the sanctity of our elections is so important, and we need to be able to trust in the system. Meddling like this is unforgivable, and I again wonder why so many good people vote Democrat. I will contact the officials in Broward County and the election officials in Georgia, that's all I can do. I keep telling myself that it's really silly to worry so much over something I have no control over, and that in eternity this election won't matter a bit.

Election Day

***It seems as though every election we say this is the most critical one in our history. Fact is, they're all important. I do think it's important to at least keep the Republican majorities in the House and Senate in order to continue the good things that have been happening since Donald Trump was elected. I don't pretend to know what is going to happen today, but it's difficult to fathom that Americans would reward the Democrats for their behavior for the past couple of years. The icing on the cake was the Kavanaugh debacle. Their attempt to destroy a good man and his family in order to further their agenda is unforgivable, politically anyway. But...again, I don't know what's going to happen. If we lose, though, I can tell you what will not happen. We will be upset and concerned about the future of our country, but we will not go into the pits of despair. We will get up tomorrow and go to work. There will be no "blood in the streets," as one Hollyw

***Wow, this has been a slow week at Halo. I don't know if it's Fall Break or what, but traffic through the store so far this week has been slow to nothing. I certainly hope it picks up Friday and Saturday! Can't stay in business at this pace. ***Wow. Brain Cramps by Famous People Quotes made by famous people without much thought... On September 17, 1994, Alabama's Heather Whitestone was selected as Miss America 1995. Here's her answer to her question... Question: If you could live forever, would you and why? Answer: "I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever." -- Heather Whitestone "Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean I'd love to be skinny like that, but not with all those flies and death a

Good Stuff

***I'm really tired of all the negative stuff going around. Here's some good news from the UK : A Belfast bakery run by evangelical Christians was not obliged to make a cake emblazoned with the message “support gay marriage”, the supreme court has ruled, overturning a £500 damages award imposed on it. The five justices on the supreme court – Lady Hale, Lord Mance, Lord Kerr, Lord Hodge and Lady Black – found the bakery did not refuse to fulfil Lee’s order because of his sexual orientation and therefore there was no discrimination on those grounds. The business relationship between Lee and Ashers did not involve people being refused jobs or services because of their religious faith, the judges added. Of course nobody should be forced to produce a product against their religious beliefs. The plaintiffs are not being denied something they can't get somewhere else. Good sense prevailed this time. *** In Texas - Cruz 54, O'Rourke 45.   Let's hope it stays

***Oh my, July was the last time I blogged. I knew it had been a while, but good grief! Gonna try (again) to do better. We've been busy at the store, plus I have picked up another transcription office, so I don't have too much down time at the store any more. We've had a lot going on! Doing everything we can to promote our artisan store, plus keep our other businesses going. Mark has been very busy with his carpet cleaning business, which is a good thing! ***I am so very glad Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court, but the awful behavior of the Democrats makes me sick to my stomach. What they put that family through in the name of getting their own way is deplorable. Everything we've found out since they started this character assassination has been that NONE of Judge Kavanaugh's accusers can corroborate anything they've accused him of. Absolutely nothing. Yet, there are people out there who call him a rapist (which he was never accused of, even
