Gender Madness
***I switch my home page between Entrepreneur and Inc. It used to be National Review and Fox News, but honestly the daily drumbeat of negative news is something I don't need, especially since I tend to focus too much on politics anyway. I thought looking at go-getters who are really doing something would be much more affirming, and I was right. However, I'm getting a little tired of the stories such as Meet the Female Founders Behind America's Hottest Companies and 4 Tips for Entrepreneurs Raising Money (Who Happen to be Women). Those are on Inc. today. Go over to Entrepreneur, and there's "Remember the Ladies: 5 Reasons Your Sales Team Needs More Women."
I'm not averse to looking for ways to reach all demographics, that's just smart marketing, but it seems we are being pigeonholed more and more by our gender, our skin color, our ethnicity, whatever. For me as a business owner, I'm not the least bit interested in how diverse my team is. I'm interested in finding the best people for the job. THAT is truly being color blind, not trying to seek out people of color just to make myself feel good. I don't CARE about their ethnicity or gender, I care about their skills and work ethic. That seems to be secondary any more.

The high school baseball team that lifted a car to save a life
On May 8, in the parking lot of Sacramento's Valley High School, a student's mom was picking her daughter up when she hit a car in front of her. Panicked, she quickly reversed, not realizing her daughter was directly behind the car. The girl was hit and became trapped under the car. Meanwhile, Valley's varsity and junior varsity baseball teams were having their last practice of the season nearby. They heard desperate screams for help. The team sprinted toward the parking lot, jumping over fences to get there. About a dozen of the players surrounded the car, lifting the four-door sedan off of the girl. The teams' assistant coach pulled the girl out and she was sent to a hospital, where she was reportedly expected to recover. Co-head coach Brett Sawyer said he was proud of the boys' brave actions. "To be honest, we might not have the best baseball team around, but we sure do have a great group of guys."

There was a Texas oil tycoon who was watching his largest oil well going up in flames. He called in the best fire fighting equipment money could buy but there was no way they could get close enough to the intense flames to reach them with their water hose. Finally, out of desperation, he called the local volunteer fire department. They chugged up in their 1946 truck and passed every one of the state of the art rigs and headed toward the center of the fire. They stopped, jumped out, sprayed each other down with water, and then proceeded to put out the fire. When they were finally finished, the millionaire was so impressed with the crew's dedication and bravery, he awarded the chief with a check for $10,000. Later, a reporter asked the chief what he was going to do with the money. The chief replied, "Well, the first thing we're going to do is fix those lousy brakes!!"

***Today is National Coffee Day!!
First off, the no purchase necessary locations. Canadian embassies* (*Tim Horton’s) across the United States will be offering free original blend, decaf, dark roast, or iced coffee starting on September 29th, and ending a week later on October 6th. In order to take advantage of the deal, all you have to do is not be in Canada (only U.S. locations), and have the Tim Horton’s app on your phone.Nope, Starbucks isn't offering any free coffee. 😥
Krispy Kreme will be running similar promotions, only slightly shorter in duration. From September 29th to October 1st, anyone can head into one of their locations and pick up a cost-free hot coffee of any size or a small iced coffee.
Dunkin’ Donuts will be having a buy one, get one free deal on September 29th, but this only applies to a hot coffee, medium or smaller. Buy any size, get a medium hot. Good thing the entire United States isn’t unseasonably hot right now or anything.
