***Wow, this has been a slow week at Halo. I don't know if it's Fall Break or what, but traffic through the store so far this week has been slow to nothing. I certainly hope it picks up Friday and Saturday! Can't stay in business at this pace. ***Wow. Brain Cramps by Famous People Quotes made by famous people without much thought... On September 17, 1994, Alabama's Heather Whitestone was selected as Miss America 1995. Here's her answer to her question... Question: If you could live forever, would you and why? Answer: "I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever." -- Heather Whitestone "Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean I'd love to be skinny like that, but not with all those flies and death a...

Good Stuff

Image
***I'm really tired of all the negative stuff going around. Here's some good news from the UK : A Belfast bakery run by evangelical Christians was not obliged to make a cake emblazoned with the message “support gay marriage”, the supreme court has ruled, overturning a £500 damages award imposed on it. The five justices on the supreme court – Lady Hale, Lord Mance, Lord Kerr, Lord Hodge and Lady Black – found the bakery did not refuse to fulfil Lee’s order because of his sexual orientation and therefore there was no discrimination on those grounds. The business relationship between Lee and Ashers did not involve people being refused jobs or services because of their religious faith, the judges added. Of course nobody should be forced to produce a product against their religious beliefs. The plaintiffs are not being denied something they can't get somewhere else. Good sense prevailed this time. *** In Texas - Cruz 54, O'Rourke 45.   Let's hope it stays...

Yikes!

***Oh my, July was the last time I blogged. I knew it had been a while, but good grief! Gonna try (again) to do better. We've been busy at the store, plus I have picked up another transcription office, so I don't have too much down time at the store any more. We've had a lot going on! Doing everything we can to promote our artisan store, plus keep our other businesses going. Mark has been very busy with his carpet cleaning business, which is a good thing! ***I am so very glad Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court, but the awful behavior of the Democrats makes me sick to my stomach. What they put that family through in the name of getting their own way is deplorable. Everything we've found out since they started this character assassination has been that NONE of Judge Kavanaugh's accusers can corroborate anything they've accused him of. Absolutely nothing. Yet, there are people out there who call him a rapist (which he was never accused of, even ...

Blogging Comeback?

Image
***Yeah, I know...how many times have you seen me type that? I can't believe it has been going on a month since I last blogged. I've been very busy with the store ( Halo Handmade Inc. )  Plus, I got a couple of new transcription clients, so that reduces my downtime drastically! I do a lot of my work at the store during the slow periods. Things are picking up a bit at Halo, people are figuring out we're there and that we're not a secondhand store. We're having fun with it. ***Still having an ongoing struggle staying out of political arguments on Facebook. I am doing MUCH better, but still, sometimes I cannot resist popping off when I see something I think is really ludicrous. The last remark I couldn't stay away from was a woman claiming that conservatives aren't Christian. I'd never make the blanket statement that liberals can't be Christian, though there are a lot of things the Democrats do and things such as abortion that are a part of their plat...

Good News

Image
***Lots of good news this week, at least in my opinion. The Supreme Court struck down mandatory union dues and mandatory abortion counseling in pro-life clinics in California, they also upheld Trump's Muslim travel ban. This is good news not only because I agree with all the decisions, but because they are constitutional. That's what the Supremes are supposed to do - interpret the Constitution. They are not there to legislate from the bench. Equally huge is the fact that breaking today is the news that Anthony Kennedy is retiring. His voting record is pretty mixed...hopefully Trump can hit another home run with the next appointee the way he did with Neil Gorsuch. You think the Democrats have been psychotic up to now? Just wait, this will really send them over the edge. Details here: http://www.scotusblog.com/ *** Civilians around the world become better armed . A note to the folks obsessed with somehow disarming all civilians: You may want to find a new hobby. This part...

Flag Day

Image
***There's just something about seeing the American flag fluttering in the wind that makes me happy. Today is Flag Day! ***From Guideposts.org : June 14th is Flag Day, a day to honor the creation of the American flag. While you probably know the pledge to our Star Spangled Banner by heart, some of these Flag Day facts may come as a surprise. Before you get to ready to display your Stars and Stripes this year, learn about the reason for its signature look, how a high school student influenced its current design, and other things you might not know about the American flag. THE FLAG ACT It may seem like Old Glory has been around since the pilgrims first landed at Plymouth, but the official adoption of  the American flag actually didn't happen until June 14, 1777, when the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia to pass the Flag Act of 1777. The resolution created an official flag for the country, just a little...

Status Report

***Wow, I thought I would have lots more time to blog, but that hasn't been the case.  I have had downtime at the store, but I've filled it with sending out resumes, doing my transcription and proofreading here, cleaning and rearranging stuff, etc. I was starting to get a little discouraged with the lack of customers, but it is starting to pick up. The festivals and special events really get started this month, so I'm sure it'll get even better. ***Okay, this is a little sappy, but I like it. From livelifehappy.com Find Happiness Once a group of 50 people were attending a seminar. Suddenly the speaker stopped and decided to do a group activity. He started giving each attendee one balloon. Each one was asked to write his/her name on it using a marker pen. Then all the balloons were collected and put in another room. Now these delegates were let into that room and asked to find the balloon which had their name written within 5 minutes. Everyone was franticall...
