***An Unsung Hero Who Serves With Grace. Great story over at Focus on the Family.

This amazing lady shifts in and out of her sometimes-single-parent role with grace and grit. And when it comes to living out powerful faith, she’s the person I think of first. She’s learned how to live with peace despite her circumstances. The first thing she does is lean on God, and the second is that she allows her faith community to be His arms and legs.
So often when we face challenging circumstances we get the first part right—taking our troubles to God. But we forget to allow those He sends a chance to help us through difficulties. It’s tempting to think that faith is some sort of synonym for endurance. There’s an element of persevering, but faith is so much more.
Faith is a muscle and needs to be used. I’ve come to understand that pulling in and ducking low when difficulties arise isn’t faith, it’s more like fear. And the Bible warns us—365 times—that we’re not to fear.

***I have to get this off my chest. I have avoided the myriad threads in Facebook about the tragedy that took place in Richmond last week as I didn't want to deal with the inevitable silliness that would follow my posting my opinion. The boy's mother is the one who called in the tip, and the police where there when he arrived. She no doubt saved several lives, the boy in question had two firearms and explosives in his possession. He obviously was planning to do a lot of harm. Since then, however, there has been an overabundance of weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. Of course it's tragic and awful, you would have to be nuts to think otherwise. BUT, if the Dennis middle schoolers did not feel like victims before, they certainly do now. Counselors, days out of school, free T-shirts, free day at the local recreational complex, endless worrying about their feelings...not terrible things, but come on. Happy Frigid New Year!

***Wow, hasn't been this cold here in Indiana in several years. It was -14 yesterday, right now it's a balmy 2 degrees. I think it's supposed to get back to normal this weekend. Christmas Stuff!

***Today's the day we go and cut our Christmas tree with Johnathan, and then tomorrow we are going shopping with both kids...what a perfect weekend! We got our outdoor lights up this morning, now to have Johnathan help us drag all the Christmas tubs down from the attic. I'm starting to get in the spirit, all I need now is a little snow. :-) ***The Washington Post , as usual, is misrepresenting the GOP tax bill , claiming it, wait for it, benefits the wealthy more than the poor and middle class. Gosh, never heard that before, have we? In fact: What the Post reporters don’t tell readers is that other measures of the Senate tax cut bill’s effects contradict their chosen – Democratic – narrative. To cite just one example, the Cato Institute’s Chris Edwards looked at the aggregate percentage cuts by income range. Taxpayers earning $40,000 to $50,000 annually would see a 51 percent reduction.
